McDonald’s and Leo Burnett London Celebrate the Magic of Imagination at Christmas

The third annual “Reindeer Ready” campaign explores the holiday through the eyes of a child.

It’s that time of year for Leo Burnett London and McDonald’s to launch their annual “Reindeer Ready” campaign and inspire Christmas cheer.

The short animated film features Ellie—an imaginative little girl eager to play a game of ‘reindeers’ with her older sister, Jenny. When an uninterested Jenny slams the door in Ellie’s face, Ellie is overcome with disappointment, wandering into her backyard without a holiday playmate. Until, that is, a lovable little reindeer appears and nudges her back into the holiday spirit.

As the two frolic and play, we see Jenny wistfully observing the fun. When Ellie and her reindeer run out of reindeer treats and she asks her dad to get more, the family trip to McDonald’s proves to be exactly what Jenny needed to get into the holiday spirit with her little sister—and it’s on this outing that the true depths of Ellie’s imagination are revealed.

“This campaign celebrates the power of a child’s imagination which comes even more to life at Christmas time” said Chaka Sobhani, CCO of Leo Burnett London. “Kids have that incredible ability to embrace the magical side of Christmas and see wonder where we struggle to especially when teenagers.”

In addition to the film, the campaign features an ‘Archie the Reindeer’ storybook, a competition to win McDonald’s Christmas jumper and silly Snapchat filters allowing users to transform themselves and their dog into a reindeer. Plus, Reindeer Ready Live returns this year, an AR tool allowing parents to share a magical Christmas moment with their children.
